On January 26, 2015, The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) announced their goals and timeline for shifting Medicare reimbursements from volume to value. Within this historic statement, HHS made clear their near and long-term objectives, which are designed to increase the quality of care and reduce the waste of dollars and resources. This move, along with other initiatives such as Precision Medicine, will change the course of U.S. healthcare while fostering innovation across the industry.
Under the outlined plan, 30% of traditional Medicare payments will be tied to alternative quality and value reimbursement models such as Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) and Bundled payments by the end of 2016. The target percentage will increase in 2018 to 50%. Additionally, 85% of all Medicare payments will be tied to quality or value by the end of 2016; the percentage will jump to 90% by the end of 2018. This goal will be facilitated through initiatives such as the Value Based Purchasing Program and the Readmissions Reduction Programs.
Key to enabling the shift from fee-for-service to quality and value-based models is disease prevention. By preventing illness and rapid deterioration, providers improve quality outcomes for their patients while reducing the overall cost of care. Jvion’s predictive analytic solutions are specifically designed to meet these goals. Using advanced predictive modeling that leverages artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms, Jvion’s solutions pin point patients at-risk of diseases and conditions that range from heart attacks and asthma to pressure ulcers and pulmonary embolism.
Within the HHS announcement, HHS Secretary Sylvia M. Burwell said, “(w)hether you are a patient, a provider, a business, a health plan, or a taxpayer, it is in our common interest to build a health care system that delivers better care, spends health care dollars more wisely and results in healthier people.”
Jvion’s solutions have already received significant market recognition including: Gartner Cool Vendor for Healthcare Providers; the 2014 Intel Innovation Award; and top honors from Fierce Health IT in the “Data Analytics” category, as well as an overall award of “Best in Show: Fiercest Cost-Saving Solution.” The software company continues to set the pace in clinical predictive analytic solutions through an approach that delivers pre-seeded use case predictive capabilities through a portal that is pre-configured for direct EMR and workflow integration.
