Genesis HealthCare System in Ohio is using Vocera Care Rounds to monitor patient feedback and implement changes.

Genesis HealthCare System in Zanesville, OH reporting significant improvements since the implementation of Vocera Care Rounds, a software-based mobile solution that monitors a patient’s experience during a hospital stay.

Vocera Care Rounds allows the Genesis HealthCare staff to track patient feedback in real time. The staff is able to report compliments and complaints and request immediate attention from relevant departments.

According to a news release on the implementation, within a few months of implementing Vocera Care Rounds, Genesis HealthCare System experienced a 35 percent increase in the hospital's overall Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) rating, the standardized data collection tool that examines patient perspectives on hospital care.

Since Vocera Care Rounds was implemented, a majority (90 percent) of the patient feedback Genesis HealthCare System receives is positive. This includes about 40 comments a week from patients in regard to staff members. According to the news release, the organization has used the feedback to create a staff recognition process that is formally recognized; this has led to increased staff satisfaction and loyalty.

“Vocera Care Rounds has given Genesis team members instant ability to respond to patient needs - anything from changing a light bulb to providing a special meal,” said Abby Nguyen, chief nursing officer at Genesis HealthCare. “Patients know their voice is being heard when they see their feedback being addressed immediately, which helps create a healing environment, improve outcomes, and build lasting loyalty.”

Genesis HealthCare System is the largest health care provider in its six-county region of southeastern Ohio. The integrated healthcare delivery system includes a not-for-profit hospital that operates at two sites. Genesis HealthCare also has an extensive network of more than 300 physicians and multiple outpatient centers.
